OASDI / Payroll Tax Calculator
OASDI stands for Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance — the Social Security portion of FICA. It is separate from Medicare, which is the HI (Hospital Insurance) portion. Both are withheld from every paycheck, and your employer pays a matching amount.
Social Security wage base: $176,100 (2025 wage base — update annually).
The Additional Medicare Tax applies to wages above $200,000 (single) or $250,000 (married filing jointly). Employers do not match it. This estimate ignores pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) contributions and Section 125 cafeteria plans.
Pre-Tax vs Post-Tax Tip Calculator
Tipping on the subtotal (pre-tax) is the common convention. Tipping on the taxed total gives your server slightly more. See the exact difference below.
Refund Estimator
Compare the federal income tax you had withheld against your estimated liability to see whether you may be getting money back or owe a balance.
Uses 2025 federal brackets for the selected filing status. The standard deduction is not applied for you — enter income after deductions.
This is a rough estimate for planning only. It is not a prediction of an IRS payment, and it does not guarantee any specific refund amount.
Amended Return Status Guide
Amended returns take far longer than original returns because they are processed by hand. Here is the typical timeline and a checklist you can track.
Typical processing timeline
-
File Form 1040-X
Mail it or e-file it, and keep a copy plus proof of mailing or the e-file confirmation.
-
About 3 weeks — intake
The IRS receives, sorts, and digitizes the return. It usually will not show up in the tracker yet.
-
8 to 12 weeks — manual review
A person reviews the changes and checks them against the original return and any supporting documents.
-
Up to 16 weeks — typical completion
Most amended returns are finished within about 16 weeks. Complex ones can take longer.
-
Check the status
Use the official IRS tool to confirm where your amended return is in the process.
